The inspiration for the name The Resilient Chef came from Peter Timmerman, a professor at York University. According to him, “resiliency” is the opposite of “dependency.” He uses the example of an escalator and an elevator: If the electricity goes down you would be trapped in the elevator whereas you can still walk up the escalator! Resiliency means having the ability to carry on when something unexpected happens, while dependency means putting complete confidence in a system that will collapse when something goes wrong.
